Mio (Design 2018) - Modern children's wheelchair with many options

Mio – your wheelchair that grows with you

The Mio is one of the most popular children’s wheelchairs in Germany and can be used with a seat width of 18 cm. The many setting and equipment options also allow this paedeatric wheelchair to be optimally adapted to each of its little drivers and to every care situation. In addition, it can grow in terms of seat width, seat depth and back height without having to purchase any additional parts. All of this makes the Mio the perfect children’s wheelchair, for early support for the very little ones (from 12 months onwards) and far beyond.

Early support

Ein lächelndes Mädchen im KinderrollstuhlOut of the buggy – into independent mobility. We are born with the desire to be mobile. In order to avoid possible consequential damage, independent locomotion must be encouraged as early as possible (from the age of 12 months), even if the child’s physical abilities are limited. The Mio is an active children’s wheelchair, that offers children the opportunity to move around independently and explore the world. Independent mobility therefore supports the development of physical, cognitive and psychological skills.

Back systems WITH or WITHOUT back tubes

You can choose between two different backrest systems for the Mio. The back system WITHOUT back tubes has a weight advantage over the back system WITH back tubes, as the trough back is mounted directly on the side parts.

The back system WITH back tubes can be fitted with a curved back plate  or with an adjustable backrest cover.  Select the appropriate variant in the Mio order sheet.

Longtime companion

The Mio can be converted into a larger wheelchair even after the maximum seat width has been increased, using conversion parts. This makes it possible to adapt the wheelchair to the course of therapy and the dimensions of the user, making the Mio a long-lasting companion.

Two frame variants Taurus and Retro

Just like our carbon wheelchair Mio Carbon and the tiltable wheelchair Mio Move there are also two frame variants for the Mio. Why? The two different frame versions (Taurus and retro frame) not only have a design function, but also support different therapeutic approaches: Thanks to its open frame shape, the Taurus frame offers more legroom, allowing the user to get in and out of the chair from the side, for example. It is also possible to approach tables or other objects from a distance. The retro frame, on the other hand, can be used as an entry aid (e.g. by using the top frame as a grab rail) and also offers a lateral guide. Discuss with your doctor or therapist which framework is the best solution for therapy and transferring the child in everyday life.

Therapeutic benefit

It was possible to design a tool precisely for the earliest stages of childhood that allows the respective perception and sensitization processes to take place at exactly the right time. This is when the child’s body is naturally adjusted to the developmental stages.

At the age of around 12 to 18 months, the foundations are laid for independent mobility of the child, who normally learns to crawl, stand and walk during this development window. If this “normal” development is not possible due to limited physical abilities, an active children’s wheelchair such as the Mio (Design 2018) enables users to fully realize their movement potential and avoid possible consequential damage from a lack of support at an early stage. If there is no stimulation of the vestibule or if it is not supported by a suitable aid, the child’s body can hardly develop autonomous and targeted muscle control. Mio (Design 2018), on the other hand, guarantees an effective basis for the training of gross and fine motor skills thanks to the combination of an upright sitting position and maximum mobility, without overtaxing its (still) small users.

Thanks to its lightweight construction and smooth running, the Mio (design 2018) is always child’s play to use in everyday life and therapy. The upright posture is optimally stabilized by the anatomically shaped seat and back without hindering the child’s natural urge to move. And thanks to the flexibility of the seat-back system, the optimum shoulder-drive wheel position for a low-fatigue gripping point can be adjusted in just a few simple steps. This allows the child to playfully and completely unconsciously train its entire musculature while exploring its environment in the wheelchair with curious eyes.

Against the backdrop of the economic efficiency requirement, the Mio (Design 2018) makes a sustainable contribution to cost reduction thanks to its co-growth function. And thanks to its fresh and clever design, Mio (Design 2018) is not just an aid, but a reliable and long-term companion in everyday life and therapy
